{"id":4588,"date":"2016-05-16T10:31:19","date_gmt":"2016-05-16T10:31:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blackbeltwhitehat.com\/?page_id=4588"},"modified":"2017-08-28T11:09:00","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T11:09:00","slug":"single-leg-takedowns","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blackbeltwhitehat.com\/en\/technique-directory\/wrestling\/single-leg-takedowns\/","title":{"rendered":"Single Leg Takedowns"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Snatch Single Leg<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Drop you level, step forward (if you&#8217;re both in orthodox stance) and grab his leg:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O2wJ0yMsMmM?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;start=80&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some coaches teach you to have your head on the outside (as above), whilst others will say you must have it on the inside, for extra leverage.<\/p>\n<p>Keep your grip of the leg as tight as possible, and pin the leg to your chest.<\/p>\n<p>Have no gaps between the leg and your chest, and your elbows must be tucked on, otherwise your opponent will defend with over and underhooks on your arm(s).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Shooting for a Single Leg Takedown<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You can step to the outside of the opponent&#8217;s lead leg:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KT99k6OJzhs?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;start=284&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Or you can shoot a normal double leg and attach the lead leg instead of both legs.<\/p>\n<p>You can establish a single leg takedown position from the over\/under clinch by sidestepping towards the leg furthest from your underhook<br \/>\ni.e. if you have a right underhook, sidestep to the left, reach for the guy&#8217;s right leg with your left hand<br \/>\nThen shotput with your underhook<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4025mpa9nZU?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;start=112&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Finishing the Single Leg<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Once you have secured the leg, there are various ways to finish the takedown. &#8220;Run the Pipe&#8221; is possibly the easiest and most common:<\/p>\n<h3>Run the Pipe<\/h3>\n<p>This is not a throw! It&#8217;s important to chain techniques in all grappling styles.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tThcr4XqMZw?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;start=187&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Defending The Single Leg<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>1.<br \/>\n&#8211; Push the guy&#8217;s head down and away<br \/>\n&#8211; Establish underhooks<br \/>\n&#8211; Put all your weight through your captured leg and drive it back like you&#8217;re starting a motor bike<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2.<br \/>\n&#8211; Establish an overhook, push the head, and take your leg out to the outside of his<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EPQ8mJj2uTI?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;start=74&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>3.<br \/>\n&#8211; You can step in between your opponent&#8217;s legs and backward roll (or similar). Watch your training partner&#8217;s neck.
