Pain can be a direct cause of depression and anxiety, but equally mental health issues including stress, can be the cause of the pain. Whatever the source, physical pain and mental health seem to have a direct association.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you want to improve your <a href=\"https:\/\/blackbeltwhitehat.com\/mma\/nutrition\/ultimate-mma-recovery-protocol\/\">recovery from MMA<\/a> sessions or just be free of pain, hopefully this blog post will help.<\/p>\n<p>We look at the causes of muscle tension and how you can tackle each one.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">For informational purposes only<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Inflammation<\/h2>\n<p>Often a symptom of an underlying issue or just a poor diet, inflammation can cause havoc in your body and a lot of pain.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Eat plenty of fish oil, high in EPA<\/li>\n<li>Eat a teaspoon of turmeric with black pepper each day<\/li>\n<li>Avoid vegetable oils &#8211; especially when frying<\/li>\n<li>Tart cherries and cherry juice is a strong ant-inflammatory<\/li>\n<li>Avoid sugar like the plague<\/li>\n<li>Avoid dairy*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*The impact of dairy on health is a controversial one, but for me giving up dairy literally changed my life in terms of joint pain, and IBS.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<h2>Cortisol<\/h2>\n<p>Stress causes cortisol levels to rise in the body which can cause muscle tension, pain and tiredness.<\/p>\n<p>To reduce levels of pain &amp; cortisol<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Consume an adaptogen*<\/li>\n<li>Meditate 10 mins per day<\/li>\n<li>Supplement with\u00a0Phosphatidylserine**<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*Adoptogens include ginseng, rhodiola rosea, ashwagandha and cordycep mushroom. Not a huge amount you can do about this &#8211; except for taking an anti-histamine.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Try nettle tablets or nettle tea<\/li>\n<li>Try rosemary tablets or rosemary tea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I would recommend avoiding the use of drugs like ibuprofen, as they can damage the stomach lining and the kidneys.<\/p>\n<p>One final thing to mention for pain is sauna use. There is a growing amount of research on the health benefits, and pain fighting abilities from saunas.
