You need a foundation of healthy, whole foods, preferably organic to maintain your health, immunity, training intensity and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>But if you are skint, this is difficult. Well don&#8217;t worry too much, because you can get a few great organic vegetables from your garden.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">*Always check an online resource like a blog, against at least 1 book and preferably 1 knowledgeable forager before eating anything.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Stinging Nettles &amp; Their Health Benefits<\/h2>\n<p>Nettles should ideally, be wilted before you eat them &#8211; heat them up until they wilt and you will destroy the &#8216;functionality&#8217; of the tiny barbs that deliver the acidic sting.<\/p>\n<p>Nettles health benefits include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anti-inflammatory benefits, great for joint pain<\/li>\n<li>Help fight off hayfever<\/li>\n<li>They contain iron &amp; vitamin C<\/li>\n<li>They reduce oxidative stress (study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0361923005001048\">here<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nettles are actually one of the healthiest plants you can eat and are very dense in terms of their nutritional content.<\/p>\n<p>Steaming them is probably the best way to prepare them.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Dandelion &amp; Their Health Benefits<\/h2>\n<p>Dandelions can also be found in most UK gardens (not sure about the US sorry).<\/p>\n<p>You can eat the whole plant, the root is a pain to prepare and change into a coffee however.<\/p>\n<p>They contain vitamins A, C and K and can be eaten raw.<\/p>\n<p>They also contain minerals such as iron and magnesium.<\/p>\n<p>There is even some research to suggest that dandelions may help prevent cancer (study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29234282\">here<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22647733\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Foraging Mushrooms<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">*Always check an online resource like a blog, against at least 1 book and preferably 1 knowledgeable forager before eating anything.
