As an advocate & practitioner of the alkaline-ketogenic diet, I depend on a couple of smoothies per day to make sure I get all my micro & macronutrients.
They can be a bit trickier to create without the normal smoothie-default-staple of a banana, but it is possible with some experimentation.
Peanut & Chocolate Smoothie
- 1/2 Avocado
- 20g Pure Peanut Butter
- Handful of berries
- 30g hemp seeds
- 10g raw cacao
- Raw honey or Stevia to sweeten
- 400ml Almond Milk or coconut milk
Berry Smoothie
- 350 ml unsweetened almond or coconut milk*
- Handful of frozen blueberries
- Handful raspberries
- 5g chia seeds
- 10g Cacao powder
- Stevia or raw honey to sweeten
*For a thicker smoothie, go for the tins of coconut milk. Cartons of almond or coconut milk tend to be about 98% water. Tins tend to be 30% to 60% coconut ‘meat’.
Healthy as Flip Smoothie
- Handful of kale
- Handful of broccoli sprout seeds
- Pinch of pink salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2g turmeric
- 10ml Fish oil (berries should hide the aftertaste)
- 2 handfuls of mixed frozen berries
- Vanilla essence
- 1/2 avocado
- 350ml coconut or almond milk
Broccoli sprouts are touted by Dr Rhonda Patrick as a cancer-fighting-super-food. I CBA growing them though, so just chuck the actual seeds in my smoothies (there is some research to say that the seeds are also super healthy)
