Wim Hof, if nothing else, is an absolute diamond, for his enthusiasm and energy.
There appears to be a lot more to him than his charisma however.
He holds various world records for sitting in and swimming under ice, he climbs mountains in just his under-crackers and runs marathons in the desert without consuming any water. All this achieved and verified by scientists and doctors.
He claims to have control over his immune system, and this was demonstrated by a study on himself and 12 of his students (who had undergone 4 days of ‘Wim Hof Method’ training) who controlled their immune-response when injected with an endotoxin which would normally have resulted in quite violent illness (throwing up etc.)
Here are some studies and ‘scientific links’ –

From listening to the Joe Rogan podcast, and from asking on the Wim Hof Method Facebook group; his basic breathing technique or method seems to consist of the following:
– Full, exaggerated inhale through the nose or mouth; relaxed exhale through the mouth – let go of the breath but don’t breathe out fully – repeat inhale & exhale 30 times
– On the 30th exhale – hold after for as long as you don’t feel the urge to breathe
– When you do, inhale for 15 seconds or more
– Scan the body for ‘energy blockages’, inflammation, etc.

He claims to have helped many people with over-active immune systems. Diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, chron’s disease, asthma etc. are all symptoms of an overactive immune system, and allegedly, these breathing technique prevent the immune system from attacking the patient’s body.
It’s interesting that Wim talks about increasing the ph of the body. Deep breathing could reduce the carbon dioxide in the body – which I think converts to cabonic acid in the blood. Either way, I’m trying the Wim Hof technique + eating lots of alkaline foods, to see if it gives me more energy and helps with my chronic sinusitis….
Hello Drew,
Did it help with your chronic sinusitis?
Thanks and best wishes,
Diego
Hi Diego – to be honest, not a massive amount. I’ve only had 1 mild cold in the last 16 months though, which is a big improvement.
